Giveaway Winner and Final Thoughts on No-Makeup Week!

No Makeup Week

Congratulations! I will be emailing you shortly to get your information, so Eco Lips can send the prize your way! Thanks again to everyone else who entered!

For readers who've been following me, I can now say it is with some relief that I've come to the end of my no-makeup week. Last week I challenged myself to go without wearing any makeup - no powder, no mascara, no concealer - for an entire week. While I normally don't wear much makeup, it was definitely tough knowing that I couldn't wear any at all!

It was especially difficult not wearing any makeup this past week because my face began breaking out quite a bit (from stress, possibly), and I started to feel self-conscious about it. However, after spending from Friday until Sunday on a small island in the Adirondacks (upstate New York, for those who don't know) where I didn't have a chance to look in a mirror, wash my hair, or worry about how I really looked much at all, I realized: I still felt fine and had fun despite my bare face!

I'm proud of myself for going a week without wearing makeup. I'm glad that I was able to set a goal for myself and complete it. It's a great feeling, you know? So here are my final thoughts:

  • I don't think that wearing makeup is an awful thing. Certainly, it's nice to let your skin "breathe" every once in a while, but as long as you're cleansing properly and moisturizing your skin, go ahead. You should be doing what makes you happy.
  • In that vein - I really do believe doing what makes you happy can really make you look livelier and a lot more radiant. I've also begun to value how much a smile can brighten up a face!
  • Lastly - be yourself. If you're going to wear makeup, I think that it should be used to accentuate who you are. It shouldn't hide who you are.

Will I start wearing makeup every day? No, I don't think so. I think that wearing makeup is a very personal thing. Everyone has their own reasons for wearing it or not wearing it, and I think everyone should be respectful of that. I'm only offering my own opinions here - but I'd love to hear some of yours!
